Course Description:

Standard Level is the basic level of education in dental laser usage, including specific laser proficiency and laboratory knowledge. Candidates for Standard Level must demonstrate basic understanding of all wavelengths via an online 75-question multiple choice psychometric examination and an oral clinical simulation proficiency exam with at least one wavelength. The Standard Level defines the standard of care for the dental professional. Upon successful completion of the Standard Certification, expected learner.
Educational Objectives
The 12 hours of CE laser utilization includes:
• an understanding of the basic principles of laser physics and laser-tissue interaction.
• how variations in the laser’s wavelength, power, and temporal modes can be used to alter desired clinical outcomes.
• an understanding of laser operation and safety features in a hands-on learning assessment exercise.
• Practical hands-on exercises in laser-assisted clinical procedures on porcine tissue under controlled supervision.
• Fulfillment of the Dental Laser Licensure Requirements.

Outcomes include demonstration of the basic level of education in dental laser usage, including specific laser proficiency and laboratory knowledge. Successful learners demonstrate an understanding of all wavelengths via a 75-question multiple choice written examination and clinical simulation oral examination with at least one wavelength. Participants in the Standard Online Examination are required to have successfully completed the 12-hour Standard course and Clinical Simulation Oral Examination with an ALD-recognized speaker. This level defines the standard of care for the dental professional. The Standard Level also forms the base credential for progressing to the Advanced Proficiency Level. Successful candidates at the Standard Level can submit for the Advanced examination immediately after obtaining their Standard certificate. Standard courses are held throughout the year by ALD recognized speakers. he hands-on and clinical simulation section is device- or wavelength(s)-specific with concentration on details for the chosen device or wavelength. Add'l Information: Walid Altayeb DDS, MSc, PhD Dr. Altayeb is a renowned dental professional with a dental degree from the Faculty of Dentistry at Damascus University (1998). He holds a Master of Science (2004) and a Doctorate of Philosophy (2007) in Periodontics, as well as a Master of Academy of Laser Dentistry from Florida, USA. He is the President-elect of ALD (2023-2024) and was the Treasurer (2022-2023). He serves on the ALD Board of Directors and Speakers Bureau. As a guest professor, Dr. Altayeb teaches at Istanbul Ayden University, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Roma, and the International University of Agadir. He has received prestigious awards, including the Leon Goldman Award for Clinical Excellence (2023) and the John G. Sulewski Distinguished Service Award (2019). Dr. Altayeb has spoken at numerous conferences across the Middle East, Europe, and the USA, focusing on Periodontal Medicine, Implantology, and Laser Dentistry. In the past seven years, he has provided more than 1,166 CPD hours in Esthetic Periodontics, Implantology, and Laser Dentistry. He collaborates with the British Academy of Implant and Restorative Dentistry to conduct "Pink Aesthetics & Laser Dentistry" courses in the Middle East and North Africa. Dr. Altayeb holds Advanced Proficiency certificates from the Academy of Laser Dentistry and has founded the ALD Gulf Laser Chapter and the Laser section in the British Academy of Implant and Restorative Dentistry. Additionally, he established the Professional Diploma in Advanced Laser Dentistry of BAIRD. Dr. Altayeb previously chaired the ALD International Relations Committee and served as the General Secretary for iLED 2018 and 2019 conferences. He currently works in private practice as a periodontist and implantologist at Tamim Dental Polyclinic (Doha, Qatar), Dr. Imran Aestheticare Center (Dubai, UAE), and Magic Style Clinic (Dubai, UAE).
