Daiane Thais Meneguzzo, DDS, MSc, PhDOrofacial pain is a very common complaint in the dental office, in particular Trigeminal Neuralgia. Pharmacological treatment has been the only option available for a long time. The side effects of prescription drugs are numerous, especially for patients with chronic pain. Temporomandibular dysfunction is another complaint that requires adequate clinical diagnosis and often the use of pharmacological drugs. The use of Laser Therapy has been shown to be effective in resolving and managing pain by accelerating the resolution of the inflammatory process, modulating inflammatory mediators, and avoiding or decreasing the use of drugs as well as reducing treatment time. This presentation will show the mechanisms of action of phototherapy in orofacial pain, the benefits of lasers as an adjunct in the treatment of orofacial pain, and the clinical management of the use of class 4 lasers.
