The Art of Digital Photography to Enhance Patient Diagnosis and Treatment

Shannon Pace Brinker, CDA, Academy of Chairside Assisting, Virginia Beach, VA, USA

As the move to a more digital dental practice continues, the dental team becomes increasingly responsible for contributing high-quality and accurately detailed dental images. Knowing the components of a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera and its advantages in the dental practice equips the dental team for capturing the best images possible. Understanding the proper positioning of subjects, equipment, and the camera also ensures digital dental photographs facilitate greater communication, patient understanding, and successful treatment outcomes.

Educational Objectives

  • Identify dental armamentarium necessary for capturing precise dental photographs.
  • Describe the proper position and angles for photography subjects in dentistry.
  • Explain the components and functions of DSLR cameras as they affect digital dental photography.

Increasing Case Acceptance from Whitening to Esthetic Dental Procedures

Shannon Pace Brinker, CDA, Academy of Chairside Assisting, Virginia Beach, VA, USA

As clinical procedures in aesthetic dentistry continue to expand and improve, the dental team’s role continues to evolve as well. As we connect with patients and understand their desires, patients become more open and honest with their expectations. Increasing case acceptance is easy when we know what to ask and say. This course takes the dental team through proper records gathering, treatment planning and case acceptance, and how to include whitening and esthetic dental treatment.

Educational Objectives

  • Identify considerations that affect whitening treatment decisions.
  • Describe how whitening products work to remove tooth stains.
  • Discuss factors affecting whitening treatment patient selection and protocol.
  • Helping patients understand what is next after the whitening.
