Statement of Endorsement & Compliance

As announced in mid-2001, the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD) formulated and adopted a revised mission statement, expressed as follows:

The Academy of Laser Dentistry is an international professional membership organization of dental practitioners and supporting organizations dedicated to improving the health and well-being of patients through the proper use of laser technology.

The Academy fosters dialogue and seeks to build community among its members and dental organizations, educational institutions, researchers, industry representatives and others who share this mission.

The Academy actively supports education and research through its certification programs, publications, meetings and additional activities.

We believe this statement clearly articulates who we are, what we are about, and whom we serve. As we continue to grow as an organization, we will be looking to enact ways that align our various activities with the directions specified in our mission statement.

We believe one such step is the adoption of an Advertising Standards and Guidelines Policy, a copy of which is enclosed. This Policy has been crafted with the thoughtful input of a number of our constituencies, involving representatives from organized dentistry, educational institutions, and the corporate community. The Standards and Guidelines themselves have been adapted from those of the American Dental Association. As our mission indicates, we see our Academy as a vibrant and inclusive organization where diverse interests are actively sought and then converge to forge effective policy.

We invite your review of these Advertising Standards and Guidelines and respectfully solicit your approval. Just as numerous organizations and corporations expressed their shared support of our vision by endorsing the Curriculum Guidelines and Standards for Dental Laser Education in 1992 and 1998, we look forward to similar sentiment now through your endorsement and compliance. We believe it is our mutual best interests to attain solidarity of opinion and approach on these matters. The Academy plans to publish the names of signatory companies on an annual basis beginning this Spring, so we encourage your completing and returning the enclosed statement as soon as possible.

Please note also that the Academy's Standards and Guidelines will become effective March 1, 2002. All advertising submitted for public dissemination through ALD after that date will undergo review by the Academy's Advertising Policy and Review Committee who stand ready to help, suggest, advise, and support as much as needed, and always in confidence. Please plan accordingly and feel free to contact us with any questions or comments.
