Leon Goldman Award for Clinical Excellence
Our 2012 recipient of The Leon Goldman Award for Clinical Excellence is Dr. Mel Burchman. He is an educator, clinician, and pioneer in the usage of low-level laser therapy (LLLT), particularly in the treatment of the medically compromised patient.
Dr. Burchman has used lasers in his private practice since 1999 and holds both Standard Proficiency (SP) and Advanced Proficiency (AP) certifications in multiple laser wavelengths and has achieved educator status in the Academy. He has used Nd:YAG, diode, and Er,Cr:YSGG laser wavelengths in addition to the work he has done with LLLT.
He is a Master of the Academy of Laser Dentistry and has presented multiple times to both our Academy and our Israeli chapter. He is currently Chairman of the Certification Committee while being an examiner and a mentor to our SP and AP candidates. Working on medically compromised patients in his private practice in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, is the area of which he is most proud.
Upon learning of his honor, Mel remarked, "Working on medically compromised patients is absolutely the most rewarding phase of my practice. Most of these patients have been patients and friends for many years. To know that you have helped these people by avoiding another hospitalization, changes in medications, and additional expenses is the best feeling you can have! I am most grateful to be honored with this award."

Knowing that my name will be in the same list of some outstanding laser researches is truly an honor.
