Course Description
ALD’s professional and unbiased approach to lasers in dentistry

to you by academicians engaged in dental laser research, education
and clinical practice. Imagine! The widest spectrum of laser devices
under one roof. Gain basic understanding of laser technology, dental
laser wavelengths, devices and the safe and effective use for patient

practice.
Candidates in the Introduction to Lasers Hands-on course will:
- Participate in 7-hours of educational instruction.
- Participate in hands-on clinical use of many different laser devices.
- Learn laser physics, the fundamentals of lasers, laser safety, and infection control.
- Learn laser types, delivery systems, operating parameters and power settings.
- Review scientific studies of both hard and soft tissue laser applications.
- Review treatment applications.

Course Description
Certification Program in accordance with the Curriculum Guidelines
and Standards for Dental Laser Education. A two-day course, hands-on
and examination program fulfills ALD’s requirements based
on the Curriculum Guidelines and Standards for Dental Laser Education.
Upon registration students receive study manuals to prepare for
this level of certification. The two day course will review in detail
the areas covered in the instruction material. Interactive and hands-on
sessions are integral to this program. This level of education includes
laser proficiency and laboratory knowledge.

Successful completion of a recognized introduction to lasers course is a mandatory prerequisite for Standard Proficiency Certification. The required hours needed to satisfy this prerequisite are equal to or greater than 2.5 credit hours. The introductory material should be approved at the discretion of the Academy or the RCP.

Course Description:
Advanced Proficiency represents the higher level of recognition
for knowledge and application of lasers used in the clinical environment.
Candidates for advanced level recognition must demonstrate advanced
level of clinical competency in safety and clinical use.
There are three components at this level:
- Online Tutorial & Written Examination. A 175 multiple
choice exam covering all areas of lasers in dentistry. Online
Review & Examination at ALD Virtual Campus:

- Clinical Simulation Examination. This exam is available
at the Annual Conference. The candidate must pass the ONLINE
Tutorial and Examination at least 30-days prior to the Annual
Conference. The exam will test the candidate’s knowledge of a
chosen laser(s), within an environment that replicates a given clinical setting.
- Clinical Case Presentations and Examination.
(Candidates must wait 1-Year after successful completion of the
written and clinical simulation examination to participate in
this final portion of Advanced Proficiency). Candidates will
prepare 5 clinical case studies and be prepared to present a
minimum of two. Laser Safety Officers are not required to participate in this portion.
The candidate will receive an extensive preparation instruction packet including a suggested time table and be assigned a mentor who has Advanced Proficiency and who will be available to the candidate for the 2-Years it requires to complete the Advanced Proficiency process.
After passing all three parts, members will receive a Certificate of successful completion and will be eligible to apply for the
ALD Mastership Program.

The Certification Committee provides a mentor program
and study guides to help candidates prepare for success.
Online Review & Written Examination
Recognizing busy lives and to better serve the needs of experienced
members, ALD’s Virtual Campus brings learning and proficiency
examination directly to eligible members.

Cancellation Policy
For written or faxed cancellations received on or before February 1, 2009 a full refund will be issued less $150 administrative fee. No refunds will be issued after February 1, 2009.
